Casino Atmospherics from a Customer\u27s Perspective: A Re-Examination
Considerable research in recent years has examined the influence of physical evidence, or atmosphere, in a variety of service settings, including leisure services. Not fully covered has been the area of atmosphere in a casino gaming setting. This extension of a previous study further investigates atmospherics in casinos. The findings showed that customers defined casino atmosphere in five key elements: theme, floor layout, ceiling height, employee uniforms, and noise level. Three of the five contributed positively to a player\u27s satisfaction with the gaming experience as shown by the regression analysis. This reinforces previous indications of the need for casino management to create an inviting atmosphere that will maximize customer satisfaction, with specific attention to those aspects that players appear to value most highly
Housing Price Dynamics Within a Metropolitan Area
This paper analyzes the pattern of cross-sectional house price appreciation in the Boston metropolitan area from 1982 to 1994. The empirical results are consistent with many of the predictions of a standard urban model in which towns have a fixed set of locational attributes and amenities. In particular, the evidence suggests that house prices in towns with a large share of residents working in the manufacturing sector in 1980 grew less quickly in the ensuing years when aggregate manufacturing employment fell. As baby boomers moved into middle age, house values appreciated faster in towns with a larger initial percentage of middle-aged residents. Housing values rose more slowly in towns that allowed additional construction, and values rose faster in towns closer to Boston. Finally, as fewer families had children who attended public schools statewide, the price premium associated with housing in towns with good schools fell. All of these findings support the view that town amenities and public services are not easily replicated or quickly adaptable to shifts in demand, even within a metropolitan area.
A profile of travelers who are willing to stay in environmentally friendly hotel
The purpose of this study is to describe travelers that have indicated they are willing to stay in green hotel in order to better understand the market segment. There is very little knowledge about these types of travelers, thus making it difficult for hoteliers to know how to create marketing campaigns that target them. Data were collected via an online survey company. Behavior characteristics provided a more distinguishing profile of the traveler than did demographics or psychographics. Most travelers were willing to pay the same amount for a green hotel as a traditional hotel. Implications, future research, and limitations are discussed
A Customer-based Assessment of Casino Atmospherics
This study investigates the elements of casino atmospherics from the perspective of slot machine players in a Las Vegas Strip casino. Guest responses to a survey instrument that was developed to measure the elements of casino atmosphere were collected and quantitatively analyzed. The results of this study suggest that the design elements of floor layout and theme may be most closely aligned with the concept of casino atmosphere from the perspective of a slot player. This outcome supports the gaming industry\u27s long-standing emphasis on these two areas of casino design. The study also provides further insight about physical evidence in services using a casino setting
Assessing Sports Advisory Services: Do They Provide Value for Football Bettors?
This study examined the effectiveness of sports advisory services in football betting. Using three different cases with recent data, it compared the actual outcomes of the football games to sports advisory services\u27 predictions in order to test their prediction accuracy for those games. The results showed none of the three data sets exceeded the threshold for profitable wagering. Thus, in football wagering, sports advisory services often fail to achieve their claims of accurate game prediction capabilities. The study suggests that these services may not provide any real advisory value to the sports betting community
Service Quality and Black Customer Satisfaction - A Perspective on the United States Restaurant Industry
This paper examines the issue of racial discrimination of Black United States (U.S.) restaurant patrons from a service quality and customer satisfaction perspective. In spite of the progress the industry has made in recent years to alleviate this problem, many contemporary examples clearly demonstrate that racial discrimination is still of great concern. The articles stresses the importance of an ethical approach in human resource management-intensive and offers suggestions for reducing discriminatory practices in U.S. restaurant service delivery
Database Marketing: A Potent Tool for Hospitality Marketers
Nearly every industry, including hospitality, has adopted database marketing techniques. Why have they become so popular and what advantages do they offer for hospitality companies? The authors examine these issues
How Green the Desert? Examining the Enviormental Policies of Las Vegas Strip Hotels
This study analyzed the websites of major Las Vegas Strip hotels, examined their corporate financial reports, and conducted two in-depth telephone interviews with hotel managers, all with regard to their “green” (pro-environmental) policies. The study found a distinct lack of evidence to support assertions that these properties had truly “gone green” in their daily operations. Thus, although the hotels might actually have been engaged in green procedures, they did not express environmental policy in their corporate websites or financial reports. Several possible reasons for this apparent duality are suggested
Imaging of a patterned and buried molecular layer by coherent acoustic phonon spectroscopy
A molecular layer of aminopropyltriethoxysilane is patterned with a focused ion beam and subsequently covered by a gold film. The gold-polymer-substrate structures are afterwards imaged by ultrafast coherent acoustic phonon spectroscopy in reflection geometry. We demonstrate that the lateral structure of the covered polymer layer can be detected via the damping time of the vibrational mode of the gold film. Furthermore, we utilize Brillouin oscillations originating from the silicon substrate to map the structures and to estimate the molecular layer thickness.Fil: Hettich, Mike . University of Konstanz.
